Who we are and what we do !

Next of Kin, Alan and Lou Mickelson (Father and Daughter-in-law duo who truly are "next of kin"), has performed at many community festivals and fund-raising events, as well as clubs, county fairs, retirement facilities, and even private home parties. We present family-friendly, acoustic, toe-tapping arrangements of classic Country and Western tunes along with many other classic favorites from the '20's to today. With songs from artists like Merle Haggard, Don Gibson, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, and Patsy Cline just to name a few, this show is a "Feel Good" show that will bring smiles and enjoyment to the young and young at heart. Your guests will leave feeling great about the experience !

To offer variety to the set list and get that fuller sound and sweet harmonies the band loves and our audiences expect, Next of Kin may feature a local artist as a Special Guest for some of our shows. We've got some very talented musicians lined up to lend a hand! Check out "About Us" to see our special guest profiles.

Call or message Alan today at 503.931.1460 to schedule your event. Check out what some of our fans and venues have said about our shows.

Audio Playlist

Check out a few audio clips from one of our recent performances!

Hey everyone! We have just added our NPR Tiny Desk Contest video! This is a song I wrote about someone I knew in high school that gave up on life way too soon, way back then. It's just a simple song, but as I thought about him as I was looking through my year book and saw his picture, the words and music spilled out onto the page as memories of him flooded back to me. I will never forget him and wish I had known him better before he left this earth. I wish there was something I could have done... We have two other videos also. One is a sample of our Duo show where we perform our cover of Nancy Sinatra's famed, "These Boots are Made for Walkin'." The other is a sample of one of our Trio shows, featuring Trent Baarspul on slide guitar. This is one of our favorite Patsy Cline tunes, "Walkin' After Midnight."
